The principals of T.M. Cobb Companies and Woodgrain Millwork, both privately held building products companies, have purchased CraftMaster Manufacturing, Inc. (CMI), the Chicago-based manufacturer of CraftMaster Door Designs and MiraTEC Treated Exterior Composite Trim. CMI will maintain its headquarters in Chicago with manufacturing at its Towanda, Pa., facility.

T.M. Cobb Companies is a building products manufacturer and distributor of doors, windows and millwork; Woodgrain Millwork is a manufacturer and distributor of mouldings, windows and doors. Terms were not disclosed.

'The CraftMaster and MiraTEC brands represent tremendous value and integrity in the building products market,' said Jeff Cobb, vice president of T.M. Cobb Companies. 'These well-known brands will anchor CMI as a stand-alone business, and tremendously enhance our overall product offering to the residential and commercial building industry.'

The jewel of the acquisition is the Towanda manufacturing facility, where the technology for CraftMaster was first developed in 1974 and where MiraTEC trim has been produced since 1999. According to Bob Merrill, president and general manager of CMI, Towanda's more than 500 employees will continue to play an integral role in the company's future.

'Towanda is home to the innovative technology that created CraftMaster, the world's leading brand of raised-panel interior door designs, as well as the patented process used to produce MiraTEC, which quickly has become the preferred choice of composite trim among home builders and remodelers,' added Merrill. 'Through this facility, we're continuing to pioneer new product extensions that will further expand our interests in the building products field, while specifically catering to the needs of our existing customers. We're very excited about our prospects for growth in 2002 and beyond.'

Speaking to the enduring legacy of the CraftMaster brand, Kelly Dame, executive vice-president of Woodgrain Millwork, said, 'The incredible equity of the CraftMaster and MiraTEC brands presents an exciting opportunity to explore new markets and new products.'

With its nearly 70-year heritage in the building products industry, T.M. Cobb Companies manufactures and distributes door, window and millwork products, primarily throughout the Western United States. Headquartered in Riverside, Calif., Cobb operates six manufacturing plants, three distribution warehouses and eight sales offices.

Founded in 1954, Fruitland, Idaho-based Woodgrain Millwork is the world's largest manufacturer of pine doors, and it produces high-quality vinyl and wood windows, finished and raw mouldings and millwork. The company has 22 manufacturing and warehouse facilities in the U.S. and South America, including an integrated forest operation. It mills, manufactures and distributes product throughout the U.S.

CMI's products include MiraTEC trim as well as all the original and authentic raised-panel designs in the CraftMaster Door Designs family, including the original six-panel Colonist; four-panel square top Coventry; four-panel, arched-top Carmelle; three-panel Clermont; two-panel Classique/Cremona curved top, and the two-panel, square-top Carrara design.
