The City of Chicago’s attempt at redeveloping the area that was once home to the Cabrini-Green housing project has taken another step forward, as the Chicago Housing Authority has selected Hunt Development Group to develop almost 500 homes in the area.
The El Paso-based firm’s project will include a 21-story tower, 32,900 sf of retail space, and connected mid-rise buildings and low-rise townhomes, Crain’s Chicago Business reports. A total of 480 mixed-income housing units will be created on a 6.9-acre site at Larrabee Street and Clybourn Avenue.
Units will range from one to four bedrooms and include 183 units for Chicago Housing Authority residents, 82 units at affordable rents, and 217 units at market rates. The surrounding area has seen luxury residential towers and retail projects rise since the housing project was torn down almost six years ago.
Imagine Group and Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives will collaborate with Hunt, who will serve as the Master Developer, on the project. Construction is expected to being in late 2018.

Report: Fraud levels fall for construction industry, but companies still losing $6.4 million on average
The global construction, engineering and infrastructure industry saw a significant decline in fraud activity with companies losing an average of $6.4 million over the last three years, according to the latest edition of the Kroll Annual Global Fraud Report, released today at the Association of Corporate Counsel’s 2009 Annual Meeting in Boston. First CityCenter projects earn LEED Gold
CityCenter announced today that it has received three Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design LEED Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council for: 1) ARIA Resort's hotel tower; 2) ARIA Resort's convention center and theater; 3) Vdara Hotel. ARIA and Vdara will open in December on the Las Vegas Strip and are the first of CityCenter's developments to be LEED certified.

Triangular tower targets travelers

'Feebate' program to reward green buildings in Portland, Ore.

Five-star resort breaks ground on the Black Sea
Construction work has commenced on a five-star resort and leisure destination along the Black Sea coast in Batumi, Georgia.
