By David Barista, Editorial Director | May 5, 2017

These 16 products represent the most cutting-edge window and door systems on the market.

1. MultiGlide DOORS

Andersen Windows

Designed to fit openings up to 25 feet wide and 10 feet tall, MultiGlide doors are available in stacking and pocketing configurations, and in all-aluminum or aluminum-clad wood options. Panel widths can be 28 to 60 inches wide and 76½ to 116½ inches tall. Bottom rail heights range from 411/16 to 12 inches. Adjustable synthetic roller wheels provide smooth, quiet operation.

2. Thermo Alu75 WINDOWS

Zola Windows

This triple-pane, thermally broken aluminum window system comes standard with R-11 glass (R-15 quad-glass is optional). The frame incorporates a three-chamber thermal break that, in combination with its multi-lock configuration and triple air seals, delivers interior comfort and energy savings. Available in a variety of window types, including tilt-and-turn, lift-and-slide, and French door.

3. Ultimate Bi-Fold Door

Marvin Windows and Doors

Bi-fold system is available in frame heights up to 10 feet and panel widths up to three feet, six inches. The unit uses two hinges rather than three for a clean, streamlined look, with less visible hardware. Concealed, multi-point locking system comes standard. Options include a retractable screen, which is concealed within a surround when not in use. Configurations up to 55½ feet.

4. SL73

NanaWall Systems

This Miami-Dade-approved operable glass wall is engineered to withstand tough weather conditions. Features include reinforced structural posts, impact-rated laminated glass, a rugged locking mechanism, specialized seals for wind and rain resistance, and engineered sills that resist wind-driven water from entering. Dual stainless steel elevated running carriages are unaffected by track debris and lie above the water run-off level.

5. Vinyl Folding Door System

LaCantina Doors

New vinyl folding door system is available in standard sizes up to eight feet tall and 18 feet wide. The door panels feature a narrow 215/16-inch stile and rail profile for added glass and light. Concealed multi-point locking provides added security. Standard color options: white and tan. Hardware finish: stainless steel or bronze. Also available in custom sizes. Comes standard with low-e dual-glaze glass.

6. EpicVue

Jeld-Wen

Line of clad-wood windows is engineered with a robust aluminum-extruded sash that provides rigid strength and stability and helps support the pane. This allows for expansive openings, including a 90-degree “direct set” option for panoramic views. EpicVue windows are made with the company’s AuraLast water-based wood treatment to protect from rot, water saturation, and termites. Available in nine wood species and five stains.

7. 8H Escutcheon

dormakaba Group

New to the U.S. market, this escutcheon trim option for the company’s 8000 Series exit devices offers a sleek, modern style. A single plate connects the pieces, providing a seamless look. It covers unsightly holes in retrofit applications. In new installations, it requires just two clearance holes for the standoffs and spindle, for fast installation. Available in five functions, three lever styles, one knob style, and six different finishes.

8. Yale Pivot Collection

Yale/ASSA ABLOY

This lever for interior and exterior doors features a two-way push/pull operation for enhanced accessibility in residential and light commercial applications. It can easily be pushed opened with a hip when carrying an item, and is designed to allow young children, the elderly, and the disabled to quickly open the door in an emergency. Three finishes: satin nickel, polished brass, and oil-rubbed bronze.

9. Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt

Schlage

This “smart” deadbolt lock integrates with Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings for advanced applications such as voice activation accessibility and keyless, one-touch locking. Its fingerprint-resistant touchscreen ensures access code numbers won’t wear or become detectable after use. Alarm mode senses vibrations at the door and alerts users with an audible alarm.

10. Insulated full view doors

Clopay

Designed for buildings that require natural light and visibility, such as restaurants, retail centers, fire stations, and automotive service centers, this thermally-broken, insulated overhead door has clear and opaque tempered glass windows in two sizes: 191/2x16 and 42x16 inches. Impact-resistant lites are also offered for coastal regions. Available with insulation up to two inches thick.

11. Scenescape Collection

Pella Corp.

Line of multi-slide, lift-and-slide, and bifold doors is installed on a floor sill track for smooth operation. The multi-slides and lift-and-slides come in multiple configurations up to 10 panels wide. The bifold doors can be arranged in a variety of ways: panels can travel to one side or open in the middle, and tracks can be straight, meet at a 90-degree corner, or curve. Bifolds can fit openings from four to 35 feet wide.

12. Antimicrobial entrance system

Linetec

The Tubelite entrance system is among a range of high-touch, architectural metal surfaces—hand rails, doors, windows, curtain wall, entrances, light shelves, panels, and column covers—available with antimicrobial protection from Linetec. Antimicrobial protection is infused into select polyvinylidene fluoride finishes to inhibit the growth of stain- and odor-causing bacteria. Available in 30,000 colors.

13. Mikron C3-11300 WINDOWS

Quanex Building Products

Windows achieved the highest structural performance class, Architectural Window (AW), as governed by North American Fenestration Standard for use in mid- and high-rise buildings. Accommodates up to 15/8-inch insulating glass units to maximize thermal and acoustic performance. In triple-pane configurations the system achieves well below NFRC 0.20 U-factor with a CR over 75.

14. WAFV-05 and WAFV-15R

Ross Technology

For extreme applications such as embassies, these aluminum windows are tested to DOS Standard SD-STD-01.01 Rev. G for protection against mob-level forced-entry attacks and rifle-level ballistic threats. The WAFV-05 and WAFV-15R all-aluminum, fixed designs are tested and certified to withstand a simulated mob attack for five minutes and 15 minutes. Engineered to resist blast loads up to 40 psi.

15. Series 600 Window Wall

Western Window Systems

Designed for commercial or residential projects in moderate climates, this window wall system offers a clean, contemporary aesthetic and seamless integration with the company’s hinged and sliding doors, and hinged windows. A thermally broken option is suitable for colder climates. Completely customizable with an array of configurations, including arches, circles, and polygons.

16. Hydraulic Wind Pins

Schweiss Doors

Hydraulic doors are available with hydraulic wind pins to eliminate the time-consuming, repetitive process of manually engaging and disengaging the pin when opening and closing the door. Users push the up/down control button or remote opener to open/close the door and set the wind pin in place. The pins lock the door to the building structure and are integral to resisting negative wind loads.
