Solar panels may soon be installed on the face of Big Ben in London as part of the U.K.'s initiatives to reach its greenhouse gas emissions objectives under the Climate Change Act of 2008.

The solar energy project on Big Ben could encourage other energy-efficiency projects in the U.K., as parliament seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 34% below 1990 levels in 2020 and by 80% by 2050.
