The Texas legislature recently passed a set of laws that are expected to make it easier for contractors to do business in the state.

The measures simplified some statutes, added protections for contractors who continue to work during the pandemic, and reduced liability in some circumstances. One reformed law removes liability in many cases for contractors for work completed under a defective design.

Most of the laws are already in effect. One new law, “Modernizing and Simplifying Texas Lien Laws,” becomes effective Jan. 1, 2022.

That law clarifies statutes and makes it easier for contractors to file liens themselves.
