At first glimpse, it seems like Diamond Lotus is more shrubbery that it is a building. Designboom reports that the housing complex, designed by Vo Trong Nghia Architects and located in Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City, will be comprised of three 22-story apartment blocks that will house 720 families.

A garden roof with trees, pathways, and pavilions will span the buildings.

Diamond Lotus will have an exterior covered by bamboo and other plants that will regulate heat gain and shade residences from sunlight. Every condo will have its own garden balcony.

“From eyesore to icon.” That's how Reconstruction Awards judge K. Nam Shiu so concisely described the restoration effort that turned the decimated Book Cadillac Hotel into a modern hotel and condo development. The tallest hotel in the world when it opened in 1924, the 32-story Renaissance Revival structure was revered as a jewel in the then-bustling Motor City.
