ACS, Inc., Madison, WI, has completed the $12.5-million Institute for Influenza Viral Research located in the University of Wisconsin’s Research Park.
The University of Wisconsin – Madison recently received approval from the Centers for Disease Control and the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services (CDC/APHIS) to begin influenza research in this facility.
ACS’ single-source design-build contract for the 30,000-square-foot research lab required meeting stringent CDC/APHIS requirements, including Biosafety Level 3-Agriculture specifications.
ACS designed the laboratory to include specialized features such as systems for high security, decontamination and redundant air handling, as well as airtight doors and a backup generator, according to Jim Corkery, project manager and president of ACS.
It was built to support the research of UW-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine researcher Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka.
