AISC launches three steel design education webinars, starting on SteelDay, September 18

August 11, 2010

(Chicago, IL) – Three live, interactive steel design webinars will be offered this fall by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC). The first live webinar is planned for SteelDay on September 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon (CST); this inaugural event will be free of charge and presented by AISC Vice President and Professor Emeritus at Penn State University, Louis F. The live webinars are an extension of AISC's full-day in-person seminars and eLearning opportunities, ideal for architects and engineers who want to stay current on pertinent industry subjects from the convenience of their office while earning Continuing Education Credits (CEUs). Participants can access the live webinar presentations using an internet and phone line connection and will have the ability to submit questions to the presenter.

The remaining live webinar schedule is as follows:

October 22, 2009: Welding – Special Applications by Duane K. Miller, Sc.D., P.E., Manager, Engineering Services, The Lincoln Electric Company, Cleveland.

The next generation of thermal glazing: How improving U-value can yield energy savings and reduce carbon emissions

The standards for energy-efficient construction and design have been raised. Due to the development of advanced low-e coatings for the interior surface and vacuum insulating technologies, architects now have more choices to improve U-values wherever enhanced thermal performance is needed to create eco-friendly spaces. These options can double or even triple thermal performance, resulting in annual energy savings and a positive return on carbon.
