Construction has reached the midway point for the Austonian, a 56-story, 850,000-sf high-rise residential and retail project in Austin, Texas. At 683 feet, the tower will be the tallest building in Austin, as well as the tallest residential building west of the Mississippi upon completion in 2010. The project is part of a city initiative to add 25,000 residents to downtown Austin over a 10-year period.
Designed by Ziegler Cooper Architects, Houston, with Clayton Levy Little Architects, Austin, as historic architect, the tower will include 178 condo units and amenities such as a 6,000-sf fitness center, an outdoor terrace at levels 10 and 55, a reflecting pool surrounded by private cabanas with flat-screen TVs, and a catering kitchen.
Other Building Team members include: Second Congress Ltd., Austin, building owner; Benchmark Development, Austin, developer; and Gary Lee Partners, Chicago, interior designer.
