Balwin & Shell Construction Co. has broken ground on their new corporate headquarters at 1000 West Capital in Little Rock, a new location for them. In doing so, they plan to be the first general contractor in Arkansas to build its own corporate headquarters as a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified "green" facility. This will be the company's fourth office location in downtown Little Rock in their 62-year history.
The tilt-up concrete building with over 23,000 square feet will be home to 50 employees with room to accommodate 14 more. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $4.5 million to $5 million.
Baldwin & Shell, acting as their own general contractor, plans to use local subcontractors, materials and environmentally friendly construction methods. Recycling trash on the job site as well as recycling the material from the existing parking lot on the site will all be part of the construction method.
The architect for the project is Witsell, Evans & Rasco, and the structural engineer will be Crafton, Tull, Sparks & Associates. TME, Inc. will serve as the mechanical and electrical engineer, and Copas Interiors will design the interior.
News Record has listed the company as one of the Top 400 Construction Companies in the nation four times. Baldwin & Shell is also the 54th largest privately owned company in Arkansas.
