Several tools and strategies that will be keys to achieving net-zero are catching on quickly, according to this column by Ingersoll Rand executives. Among the options are:
· On-site energy generation using solar, wind and fuel cells.
· Expanded capabilities of building-modeling software allowing easier analysis of the long-term impact of choosing high-performance building alternatives during design and construction.
· Building automation systems that automatically perform efficiency tasks that used to require human intervention.
· Commissioning, re-commissioning, and continuous-commissioning strategies.
Implementation of these tools and policies yield lower lifecycle costs, a smaller environmental footprint, and—more studies indicate—healthier and more productive workplaces and living spaces. These results will drive more and more owners to take big strides along the path to net-zero.
