Building Team Project of the Year Awards

Building Team Project of the Year Awards

By Staff | August 11, 2010
This article first appeared in the 200106 issue of BD+C.

Seemingly worlds apart in inspiration and execution, the two Grand Award winners in the fourth annual "Building Team" awards program are actually linked, say esteemed members of our jury (below). Both projects are quite unusual, and the owners were led more by mission than by the typical constraints of program, schedule and cost. Alongside those two — Seattle's vaunted Experience Music Project and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's new headquarters — our four Merit Award winners seem rather modest: speculative and owner-occupied office projects, and a community library. The editors congratulate all the winning building teams for their achievement, and we thank our jurors and the many other excellent contenders this year.

Joseph R. Krusinski

A member of NAIOP, AIA and SIOR, Krusinski is also past president of the Chicago Building Congress and director of the Chicagoland Construction Safety Council. He is president of Krusinski Construction Co., an Oak Brook, Ill.-based general contractor and construction manager founded in 1973 specializing in commercial/industrial work.

T. Gunny Harboe

Immediate past president of AIA Chicago, Harboe is vice president of the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois and an officer of Docomomo-US, a modernist preservation group. As vice president of the Preservation Group at Chicago-based design/build firm McClier, he recently consulted to the reuse of Chicago's Reliance Building.

Donald A. Shapiro

Shapiro is senior vice president and managing director of investment services at Chicago-based MB Beitler, where he oversees financing, development, acquisitions and dispositions. He is also a member of NAIOP, the Chicago Development Council and the Real Estate Investment Association (REIA).

Raj P. Gupta

President of Environmental Systems Design Inc., a Chicago-based integrated M/E/P and communications-technology engineering firm, Gupta is a member of BOMA, ASHRAE and the Chicago Building Congress. He is registered in 27 states and serves as editorial adviser to two national engineering magazines.

Roger Lang

A senior vice president with Turner Construction Co., New York City, Lang specializes in preconstruction management. Lang previously practiced architecture, and he is still an AIA member and serves on the Contract Documents and Surety Bonding committees of the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

Randolph F. Thomas

As executive vice president of real estate service firm The Alter Group, Lincolnwood, Ill., Thomas leads the development of speculative and build-to-suit business parks throughout the United States. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and is involved with numerous other professional groups.

Robert C. Sinn

A fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a registered professional engineer and structural engineer in Illinois, Sinn has been with global A/E firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill since 1984. Sinn is also active in numerous professional groups, including the Structural Engineers Association of Illinois.
