New York, NY (February 24, 2020) Carisima Koenig, AIA, has joined Perkins Eastman as Principal in the global architecture and design firm’s NYC headquarters. Koenig brings more than 20 years of award-winning experience to the firm’s higher education team as Associate Higher Education Practice Leader. Koenig has worked across all education typologies.
With a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Iowa State University and a BFA from Drake University, Koenig began her career as an architectural designer for top firms in New York City. She worked on several high-profile projects, including the renovation of the United Nations headquarters and the design of the iconic NYC cultural institution, Jazz at Lincoln Center. Most recently, she served as Senior Vice President and Co-Leader of the New York City Education Practice at one of the nation’s leading design firms. Among the highlights of her career are the renovation of NYU’s Bobst Library Special Collections—an intricate project that the AIANY has recognized with its 2020 Design Award for Merit in Interiors—and the design of Pratt Institute’s Emerson Place Residence Hall.
“Carisima brings a passion for and deep knowledge about higher education design, a client-first approach, and a communicative leadership style, all of which will make her an invaluable asset,” says Alan Schlossberg, AIA, COO, Principal and Executive Director of Perkins Eastman.
“Perkins Eastman is a firm I have admired and respected since I began practicing," said Koenig. "As the firm begins the next decade, I am excited to contribute to the continued growth of the office and the higher education practice.”
Alongside her design work, Koenig teaches in the Graduate Architecture & Urban Design program at Pratt Institute as a Visiting Assistant Professor, a position she has held for the past 15 years. She is also Co-Chair of the AIANY Professional Practice Committee, a Board Member of Saint Saviour Catholic Academy, and an Advisory Board Member for Madame Architect.
