A 70,360-sf elementary school near Los Angeles helps bolster educational experiences with naturally lit classrooms, fresh-air ventilation, and outdoor learning spaces. Part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Valley Region Elementary School No. 6 in Panorama City was designed by MVE Institutional for 1,000 students, with 38 teaching stations over 4.31 acres. To make the best use of the limited space, the design team created a double-loaded corridor for the main building and established courtyards as outdoor learning environments. Certified by the Collaborative for High Performance Schools, the building addresses burgeoning urban population needs by maximizing functionality of small spaces. Also collaborating on the project were Pinner Construction, VCA Engineers, Nabih Youssef and Associates, Debibi and Associates, Site Design Studio, Commercial Kitchen Design, and PMC.
