The Columbus Museum of Art is opening the new Margaret M. Walter Wing on October 25.

The 50,000-sf addition will have 21,936 sf of gallery space, which entails an upper level gallery, lower level exhibition area, a video gallery, and a room that will hold conceptual visual artist Mel Chin’s Spirit installation.

The project will also contain atriums, pavilions, and gardens that can be used for special events, along with theater-style meeting rooms and auditoriums.

The new wing is a part of a $36.7 million plan that includes renovations to the museum’s Ross Wing and lobby area, which were added in 1974. The Columbus-based firm DesignGroup and architect Michael Bongiorno led the renovations.
