Peter J. Davoren, president and CEO of Turner Construction Co., has joined Building Design+Construction's editorial board.
Davoren has spent his entire 30-year career in construction at Turner, which completed more than $8.6 billion in projects in 2006. Davoren serves on the board of the ACE mentor organization, which is addressing the issue of the insufficient number of students entering the construction industry. He is also leading Turner's efforts to encourage more students to stay in school and enter the industry through Turner's YouthForce 2020 program, which provides mentoring, internships, and scholarships.
Davoren has also stressed continuing to support minority- and women-owned businesses. In the last two years Turner's contracts with minority and women-owned businesses have totaled $1 billion annually.
Turner is a leading builder of sustainable construction, and Davoren has made several commitments as CEO to reduce the company's impact on the environment including joining the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Leaders program.
