The earthy beauty of mahogany, walnut, or maple have long been a popular mainstay in architectural design. Intrinsically connected to nature they evoke a feeling of strength and stability. However, with it comes concerns over deforestation and design constraints because of wood’s maintenance requirements and weight.
You deserve beautiful, durable, and sustainable architectural cladding. That’s what ALPOLIC’s Timber Series is all about. These wood grain panels offer the rich beauty of 10 wood grain finishes in an adaptable metal composite material. Produced with an advanced fluoropolymer finish that’s far more durable than real wood, these materials provide the outstanding natural appearance you’re looking for, along with the outstanding performance and value you expect from ALPOLIC.
Let’s explore how three projects, featuring innovative metal composite material, have created unique solutions without compromising on the design intent.
Sustainable solutions for a better tomorrow.
LEED Gold certified and winner of the International Architecture Awards, the University of Miami has reimagined student housing with Lakeside Village. This 12-acre, 535,000 square foot complex is part of the university’s strategic plan to enhance student living and integrate the campus experience.
Designed by Arquitectonica and constructed by Moss and Associates, Lakeside Village consists of 25 interconnected buildings housing 1,115 students. The design emphasizes a connection with nature, featuring 60,000 square feet of green roofs, outdoor terraces, and lake views. The buildings are elevated on pilots, inspired by Stiltsville in Biscayne National Park, creating natural breezeways and communal spaces.
The use of ALPOLIC’s Timber Series MCM in the construction adds to the natural aesthetic and commitment to sustainability. Featuring 100,000 square feet of recyclable 4mm ALPOLIC®/fr in Teak, fabricated into a rainscreen cladding system by Cladding Systems, Inc, the design marries a sense of modular innovation and natural inspiration.
Delivering a competitive edge.
For the largest companies in the world, having a consistent and recognizable corporate image is a key to successful architectural design. Not only do they need the right look, but these building materials need to be affordable and easy to install and maintain to keep budgets and schedules on track. That’s why, when it comes to corporate identity (CID), more brands trust ALPOLIC MCM.
Bridging the gap between two recognizable brands into one cohesive design is a tall order. Design agency Brilliante Group leveraged the broad range of MCM finish options to create a striking yet cohesive design. The industrial coolness of brushed hairline aluminum, the bold and instantly recognizable precision color matched yellow, and the rustic ALPOLIC Timber Series in Teak came together beautifully.
This façade, fabricated by Icon and CEI, blended styles for a unified and sophisticated brand refresh. A retrofit, the team delivered a new era for the brand without significant service interruption. It’s branding reimagined, delivering value without having to compromise on design.
Beautifully weathering the storm without the upkeep.
The islands of Hawaii can come with bright sun and heavy rains. This hotel entryway had been previously accented with real wood which led to nearly yearly maintenance. The weather-beaten façade needed to be sanded and stained to bring back that natural beauty. The fabrication team at Bestworth-Rommel had a better idea.
Using ALPOLIC’s Timber Series in Teak, MCM replaced the wood panels with a look that would last. Created with a unique image transfer process over a color base coat, the natural coloring and grain patterns are protected with a clear topcoat for enduring quality, even when specified in outdoor applications exposed to harsh weather. Cleaning is as easy as a freshwater rinse with our next-generation Lumiflon® FEVE fluoropolymer resin.
Timber Series panels are so realistic, they’ll make you look twice. Like all ALPOLIC products, they are easy to fabricate, provide the elegant look and rigidity of real wood at a fraction of the weight and without the need for weatherproofing maintenance. They are perfect for both interior and exterior cladding systems, modular buildings, fascia, accent bands, canopies, column covers and signage and more.
Designed differently to deliver beauty and convenience.
“Our Timber Series has been very successful throughout the years,” said Octavio Diaz, ALPOLIC Sales Director. “There is a demand for realistic wood finishes that offer minimal maintenance, provide superior weatherability performance, and are produced sustainably.”
Through innovative technology, ALPOLIC continues to add patterns to the Timber Series that simulate both domestic and exotic wood grains. Backed by an industry leading repair and replace warranty, ALPOLIC ensures the architectural vision endures for up to 20 years or longer.
“For architects and designers, it means their creations will look as good over the next couple of decades as they did the day they were installed,” said Diaz. “For building owners, the Timber Series offers them the look of wood but with low maintenance and aesthetic longevity.”
Japanese Birch and Wild Plum join ALPOLIC’s popular Timber Series collection, which feature realistic wood looks in Walnut, Zebrawood, Mahogany, Oriental Cane, Rio Aleon, Harvest Trail Bamboo and Maple. The Timber Series wood-grain finishes offer the best of both worlds by combining the look of real wood with the adaptable, fade resistant, easy-to-maintain properties of our trusted MCM.
