The city of Las Vegas displayed a digital twin of a 7-square-kilometer section of its downtown at the annual Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month.
The digital twin will be used to help model current and future scenarios to enact new policies addressing energy use, emissions, traffic, parking, noise, and emergency management. The digital model is a collaboration between the city, digital twin platform vendor Cityzenith, and data firm Terbine.
The model collects street-level data in real time via Internet of Things sensors and the city’s 5G network. The technology will help city planners visualize data that it can share with other organizations for planning and training.
In the future, real estate owners, university researchers, architects, and casino operators, could benefit from this project.
