The Environmental Protection Agency and Freddie Mac have teamed up to make apartments more efficient in energy and water consumption.

Freddie Mac will gather data on energy and water use from property owners, and encourage lenders to spend on energy-efficient investments for multifamily housing.

EPA will provide technological assistance such as the Energy Star Portfolio Manager energy management and tracking tool.
