Houston, Salt Lake City, Miami, New York, and Los Angeles are five cities that are leading the way on preparing for climate change and extreme weather, according to a Center for American Progress report.

Houston has launched an initiative designed to enhance its water and drainage infrastructure. Los Angeles plans to combat extreme temperatures by promoting cool roofs and pavements. Salt Lake City plans to preserve an additional 10% of watershed lands and groundwater resources by 2015 to counteract a projected 90% drop in rainfall.
