Structural engineer Thomas P. Skinner, senior engineer of Boulder, Colo-based JVA Inc. remembers his former boss, President Robert B. Hunnes, was up before the sun at the fledgling reconstruction site for The Academy project, applying his ice pick with the skill and delicacy of a brain surgeon. Hunnes was determined to inspect personally every floor joist at the long-boarded-up facility to identify clearly what could be kept, upgraded or replaced. He wasn't about to delegate this critical first step to anyone else in the firm.
