Hardin Construction Company — based in Atlanta with offices in Tampa and Orlando, FL; Raleigh, NC; and Austin TX — recently celebrated the topping out of Georgia Southern University's Centennial Place student housing project in Statesboro, GA.
Some 300 workers and support staff representing 20 trades attended the event, which featured a Low Country boil and barbeque lunch and prize drawings.
"The quality looks good, the buildings are clean and you have provided a safe working environment," said Hardin President Bill Pinto, thanking workers for their efforts on behalf of Hardin and Ambling University Development Group (AUDG).
Also in attendance were representatives of AUDG and Georgia Southern University, including Vickie Hawkins, director of university housing, and Tom Palfy, director of auxiliary services.
"We are well ahead of schedule and under budget," said Charles Perry, president of AUDG, "and an exceptional high-quality product will be delivered to Georgia Southern University for the use of their students."
The 1,001-bed Centennial Place, which university officials have described as "a model for the future," will feature a variety of room types ranging from two-bed rooms to super-suites with individual bedrooms and shared living and kitchen space. The building will also have recreational areas, a computer lab, retail shops, and a food court.
Centennial Place is scheduled for completion in July 2009.
