Gilbane's Fox Network Center earns National Excellence in Construction Award

August 11, 2010

Fox Network Center in Houston, Texas.

Gilbane Building Company’s
work on Fox Network Center in Houston, Texas, has earned the company an Eagle Award in the Commercial - $25-million - $100-million category of ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards. Gilbane’s representatives received the award during the 19th annual Excellence in Construction Awards celebration at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Fox Network Center - Houston is a 191,640 square-foot campus-style facility, located on 29 acres and includes a central plant and significant antenna farm. This two-story, broadcast distribution facility serves as a master control center for Fox’s many regional sports networks and other programming service and includes components for network operations, broadcasting, training, and provisions for a future Tier 4 data center.

Despite severe weather challenges, Gilbane completed the largest broadcast-distribution master control center in the country – capable of sustaining operations for two weeks during a power failure – while providing extensive value analysis to the owner.

The Excellence in Construction awards program is the industry’s leading competition, developed to honor innovative and high-quality merit shop construction projects and safety programs. The award honors all construction team members, including the contractor, owner, architect and engineer. The winning projects, selected from entries submitted from across the nation, were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unique challenges overcome, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and cost. A panel of industry experts served as the competition’s judges.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) is a national association with 79 chapters representing 25,000 merit shop construction and construction-related firms with 2 million employees.
