The Robert E. and Jenny D. Kirkland Foundation is identifying architects interested in designing a 50-acre, multi-million dollar complex in Union City, TN.
Discovery Park of America will be a world-class, multi-faceted venue presenting exhibits and interactive experiences about history, nature, art, and science. Most exhibits will be housed in Discovery Center, the centerpiece of Discovery Park. Discovery Center is expected to be 70,000 – 100,000 square feet with a distinctive and compelling design to attract interest and visitors from around the world. Future buildings, designed to complement Discovery Center, will house exhibits for military equipment, transportation and other subjects.
Discovery Park is in the very early stages of design and construction. The contract with the original architect has been terminated and the Kirkland Foundation is seeking a new architect for this project. It is expected that an entirely new design will be developed.
Architectural firms interested in this possible project should contact Jim Rippy (jrippy@westaninsurance.com or 731-885-5453) or Larry Snider (lsnider@discoveryparkofamerica.com or 423-963-0442). Firms expressing interest will receive more information about the selection process.
The Kirkland Foundation has been the principal benefactor of Discovery Park. It financed the launch of Discovery Park with the purchase of land and some initial construction. The Foundation is also underwriting the acquisition of artifacts and plans to fund a portion of the operating expenses during the first several years of operation.
