Hungary’s A4 Studio Wins World Architecture Community Award using ARCHICAD

BUDAPEST, November 5, 2015 – GRAPHISOFT®, the leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software developer for architects and designers, is pleased and proud to announce that Hungary’s A4 Studio has won the World Architecture Community’s Award in the Public Buildings/Community Centers category for its design of the Casablanca Market in Morocco.

Inspired by the suspended, community-designed shading structures seen on traditional Moroccan marketplaces, the building allows traffic to flow through the arcade-like marketplace.  The market design is the scene of lively commerce on the ground floor and peaceful conversations on the terraces. Designed using ARCHICAD, the triangle of the site is in contact with its broader environment as the rope structure integrates the neighboring houses.  The grey-water of the market irrigates the park in front of the school, while the stalls transform into dining tables and a stage in the evening, facilitating the start-up of new restaurants and shops on the premises of the surrounding buildings.

“We are pleased and proud to be recognized by the World Architecture Community for our creative work on this Moroccan market,” said Géza Kendik, lead designer on the project.

Bridging the gap: How early architect involvement can revolutionize a city’s capital improvement plans

Capital Improvement Plans (CIPs) typically span three to five years and outline future city projects and their costs. While they set the stage, the design and construction of these projects often extend beyond the CIP window, leading to a disconnect between the initial budget and evolving project scope. This can result in financial shortfalls, forcing cities to cut back on critical project features.
