The city of Los Angeles is proud of its showcase “Miracle Mile,” a stretch of Wilshire Boulevard west of downtown L.A. with buildings designed to be easily viewed from a car while driving at 30 mph – a concept developed by Miracle Mile developer A.W. Ross to draw shoppers to the area from the downtown area as early as the 1920s and '30s.
It is home to well-known publications including Reed Business Information's venerable Variety Magazine, the movie/TV industry's gold standard for inside information about Hollywood. It is also the location of the famous La Brea Tar Pits and home to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
Currently a driver can see several buildings under construction, including a new $172-million-plus upgrade of LACMA. A crane boom can be seen – from Wilshire Boulevard – that is helping Matt Construction crews as they build new piazzas, galleries and gardens in an area the size of three football fields.
