In addition to the Hingham Elementary School, two other TCCI projects include site work of the $16-million C.W. Morey Elementary School in Lowell, MA, and the $18.3-million Lexington Department of Public Works (DPW) building in Lexington, MA.
The new Morey School is a two-story building (approximately 67,000 square feet) currently under construction five feet away from the existing school (which will make demolition of the former school tough, according to construction professionals.) The existing school has remained in operation throughout the construction period.
The construction site is an urban location bounded by public ways. The project includes related site work, landscaping and demolition of the existing school upon completion of the new school. Exterior finishes include brick, block, curtain wall, metal panels, and aluminum windows.
The detailed scope of work for this project includes erosion control, clear and grub. Also included is the stripping and stockpiling material for reuse on site, pulverizing of asphalt for reuse, removal and replacement of unsuitable materials, drainage structures, waterline installation and wet taps, new hydrants and gate valves, and sewer line installation with 4,500-gallon grease trap. The work also includes excavation and backfill of foundations, interior underground plumbing and electric, slab on grade (SOG) prep, and walk and pavement prep. The contract amount with change orders is $600,000. Completion date is April 2009.
This Lexington DPW project includes the construction of a new, approximately 87,000-square-foot facility with site components and has a maximum height of two stories. The public works facility is located at the current DPW location at 201 Bedford Street.
The project includes the demolition of the existing facility and all related site components including abatement. The new facility will serve the Administration and Operations divisions of the DPW.
The new building includes administrative offices, lunchroom, locker rooms, central stores, shops, maintenance area, vehicle staging and prep, wash bay, cold storage, a fuel island, a sand/salt shed, and associated landscaping and parking. The DPW is expecting to seek LEED certification for the entire 9.6-acre site.
The scope of work for this project includes erosion control, check dams, sediment basins, as well as clear and grub of a 4-acre site. Also included is the demolition (minor), pulverizing of 5,000 yards of asphalt for reuse on site, cuts to fills (7,000 yards of gravel reuse on site), drainage — 2,000 LF from 4-inch to 24-inch RCP and PVC, infiltration system (392 chambers), 12 structures, water installation (1,400 LF 4-inch to 8-inch ductile iron), new hydrants and gate valves, sewer (approximately 1,100 LF of 6-inch to 8-inch PVC), sewer structures, and two 1,500-gallon oil grit traps. The work includes all excavation and backfilling for the foundation, interior underground plumbing and electric, SOG preparation, and walk and pavement preparation.
The contract amount with change orders is $1,200,000.00. Completion date is August 2009.
