Dozens of mayors from around the globe signed the Chicago Climate Charter early this month.
According to reports, 51 mayors attended the event, though it was unclear how many mayors signed the charter. The agreement is intended to spur cities to reach greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals, similar to the Paris climate accord.
According to USA Today, the charter calls for:
— Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by an aggregate of at least 26% to 28% below the 2005 level by 2025. That would meet the commitment the Obama administration made for the U.S. in the Paris accord.
— Quantify, track, and publicly report the progress toward reaching each city's individual commitments.
— Advocate for greater local authority to allow municipal leaders to develop policies and local laws to have a greater impact on climate issues.
— Include women, racial and ethnic minorities, indigenous people, people with disabilities, and other marginalized communities in developing climate policy.

NFPA Fire & Life Safety Conference in December
Presentations on recent Fire Protection Research Foundation projects, how September 11th and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire affected high rise design, and a panel discussion on emerging code issues will be featured at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)’s Fire & Life Safety Conference on December 12-14 in Orlando, FL.The meeting will include more than 60 educational sessions in which participants can earn continuing education units (CEUs). Project Aims to Automate Code Compliance Assessment
FIATECH, a consortium of owners from the industrial, power, and retail markets that build large structures, launched a project this year to validate the use of automation technology for code compliance assessment, and to accelerate the regulatory approval process using building models. Long-term objectives include the development of an extensive, open-source rule set library that is approved by industry and regulatory bodies for use by technology developers and code officials.

EPA Says Additional Lead Paint Cleaning Rules Not Necessary
