FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - February 17, 2009– As Soho House Limited prepares to introduce its high-end club concept to Miami Beach, construction manager Moss & Associates recently passed a significant milestone at Soho Beach House, a $33 million hotel construction project. Moss & Associates topped out the two-building complex, marking the completion of the highest point of construction.
Soho House Limited acquired the Miami Beach property from Ryder Properties in 2008, and announced plans to operate a 120-room hotel under its own international brand, which was created by hotelier and entrepreneur Nick Jones. Located on Collins Avenue adjacent to the recently reopened landmark Fontainebleau hotel, the oceanfront resort will include a luxury private members club modeled after the company’s Soho Houses in London and New York.
Architect Allan T. Shulman designed the Soho Beach House, which incorporates the former Sovereign Hotel -- a 7-story Art Deco hotel built in 1941 -- and a new 15-story tower facing the Atlantic Ocean. The resort’s on-site amenities will feature a large club area with Soho House’s trademarked Cowshed spa, restaurants and bars, swimming pools and retail shops.
As construction manager, Moss led the preconstruction planning, including close coordination with owner’s representatives, consultants, city building officials and historic district representatives. The Sovereign Hotel renovation required extensive remedial work to the existing structure, while close proximity of commercial and residential buildings posed logistical challenges for Moss’ on-site crews.
Moss & Associates has completed numerous construction projects for resort and hospitality properties in Florida and the Caribbean, including the Boca Raton Resort & Club, Fort Lauderdale Grande and the Hyatt Regency Pier 66. Members of Moss’ executive team have been responsible for over $3 billion in resort and hospitality construction throughout the U.S. and Caribbean.Â
