NYLO Hotel in Dallas will run on renewable energy

NYLO Hotel in Dallas will run on renewable energy

August 11, 2010

When NYLO Dallas/Las Colinas opens in late July 2009, it will run on 100 percent renewable energy. The loft-style boutique hotel brand has signed an agreement with TXU Energy to become the supplier’s first hotel customer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area to purchase 100 percent Renewable Energy Certificate-based electricity.

“This is a huge initiative as we look to become an even more eco-friendly brand,” said Patrick O’Neil, executive vice president of operations for NYLO Hotels, which already incorporates renewable energy in all of its other locations. “TXU Energy is our neighbor in Las Colinas, and we are proud to work with them to be part of a movement that benefits the environment and provides a more efficient means of energy to power our hotel.”

NYLO Dallas/Las Colinas, the brand’s third green hotel and largest to date, houses 200 rooms, including two skyline suites with views of downtown Dallas; 7,000 square feet of meeting space; a chic restaurant and lounge with urban cuisine and a sushi bar; and a 7,500 square-foot courtyard featuring two heated pools, cabanas, fire pits and an outdoor bar.

“Customers want power choices that are both economically sound and environmentally conscious,” said Nancy Perry, vice president, business markets, TXU Energy. “Through this partnership, TXU Energy is providing NYLO, a valued customer, with the choices it wants to meet their environmental commitments in an economical way.”

NYLO Hotels integrates eco-friendly innovation and energy efficiency into each one of its locations. Conservative construction designs with limited use of crown moldings, as well as floor and wall coverings, reduce the need for excessive materials while also enhancing the look and charm of each hotel. Its state-of-the-art technology and advanced mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems allow for lower energy costs. In guest lofts, air conditioning units turn on automatically when guests enter and shut off automatically when they leave. Additionally, NYLO’s desk pads are made from recycled paper, and its exclusive line of bath and body products, which are free of chemical preservatives, comes in recycled bottles.

NYLO Dallas/Las Colinas is now taking reservations for all dates after July 27, 2009. To reserve your Loft at a special grand opening rate, call 1-866-391-NYLO.

3D-printed construction milestones take shape in Tennessee and Texas

Two notable 3D-printed projects mark milestones in the new construction technique of “printing” structures with specialized concrete. In Athens, Tennessee, Walmart hired Alquist 3D to build a 20-foot-high store expansion, one of the largest freestanding 3D-printed commercial concrete structures in the U.S. In Marfa, Texas, the world’s first 3D-printed hotel is under construction at an existing hotel and campground site.
