Paul Barter joins ESD as VP and Group Leader

Barter will lead ESD's Commercial team, taking responsibility for resource and project management assessments, marketplace awareness, and business development.

CHICAGO, IL – Paul Barter has been named Vice President and Group Leader of Commercial Consulting Engineering at ESD (Environmental Systems Design, Inc.), an international leader in the consulting-engineering design of high performance building systems. 

In his new position, Mr. Barter will lead ESD’s Commercial team, designing building systems for facilities such as McCormick Place, Motorola Mobility at the Merchandise Mart, and O’Hare International Airport. He also is responsible for resource and project management assessments, strengthening marketplace awareness, and business development. 

Prior to joining ESD, Mr. Barter was Executive Director at ExteNet Systems in Lisle, Illinois. Previously, he was the Founder, CEO, and President of  i5 Wireless; Founder and President of Innovative Building Concepts, Inc.; and held electrical engineering positions at WMA and SOM. Along with commercial and retail spaces, Mr. Barter’s experience includes energy efficient and resilient power systems, healthcare, residential, and industrial projects.

Mr. Barter is a licensed Professional Engineer, and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and Consulting Electrical Engineers of Chicago. He received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
