The announcement comes after nearly two years of planning by Chicago's architecture, design and urban planning community about how to best honor the legacy of Burnham and the Plan of Chicago he co-wrote with Edward Bennett. The Plan of Chicago is widely recognized as the first comprehensive planning document guiding the growth of an American city.

What: News Conference to Announce Winner
When: Begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8
Where: Offices of the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Chicago)
Location: 35 East Wacker Drive in Chicago, Suite 250

A three-dimensional scale model of the proposed Burnham Memorial will be unveiled.  In addition, all conceptual designs submitted as part of the competition will be on display.  The winning design team will detail its plan for the Memorial.

Bridging the gap: How early architect involvement can revolutionize a city’s capital improvement plans

Capital Improvement Plans (CIPs) typically span three to five years and outline future city projects and their costs. While they set the stage, the design and construction of these projects often extend beyond the CIP window, leading to a disconnect between the initial budget and evolving project scope. This can result in financial shortfalls, forcing cities to cut back on critical project features.
