Builders of an eight-level, 937-space parking garage near PNC Park, the new home of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team, employed precast, prestressed concrete to minimize construction time and costs. Both the garage and the ballpark were to be ready by opening day, April 9. The garage contains 1,245 precast concrete components, including walls, columns, stair and elevator panels, stairs and landings, spandrels and window mullions as well as pretopped double tees that form the structure's parking decks. Project consultant for the North Shore Parking Garage is Morse Diesel International; construction manager is The Massaro Co., and the architect is WTW Architects, all of Pittsburgh.
