It has been 30 years since the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) received a new student residence building, but that is about to change as Shawmut Design and Construction has recently broken ground on a new 43,500-sf residence hall on the Providence campus.

The six-story facility, designed by NADAAA, a firm started by former RISD student Nader Tehrani, will house 153 students. It will include amenities such as workrooms, a makerspace, bike storage, a shared kitchen, and an outdoor terrace.

The new residence hall will engage an Integrated Project Delivery Method (IPD) to allow the team to work together as efficiently as possible. The building is slated for completion in August 2019, just in time for fall semester.
