Sika Sarnafil introduces new roofing coating for existing roofs

May 10, 2011

CANTON, MA – Sika Sarnafil announced the availability of Sikacoat roof coatings, the latest addition to the company’s roofing product line and an economical solution to extend the life of existing roofing systems until a roof replacement is necessary.

Sikacoat roof coatings, which can be used over existing single ply roofing membranes, asphalt roof systems or to restore existing metal roof systems, provide building owners with a cost-effective option for roofing maintenance, repair and restoration while enhancing roof reflectivity.

“This new product line addresses the needs of building owners to extend roof service life, eliminate leaks and improve a building’s aesthetics and energy usage,” said Brian J. Whelan, Senior Vice President of Sika Sarnafil. “Sikacoat is based on proven acrylic coating technology that has been in service for more than 20 years in the United States.”

The Sikacoat system utilizes a high-performance, elastomeric acrylic roof coating technology: a buff-colored base coat and a bright white finish coat. These high performance elastomeric coatings provide a seamless waterproof barrier that can expand and contract with roof movement. Sikacoat meets or exceeds all the physical property requirements of ASTM D6083 including low temperature flexibility, a critical indicator of product performance.

Sikacoat also meets the cool roofing requirements of ENERGY STAR, California Title 24, LEED and Green Globes programs. Once applied, the product’s high solar reflectance will help reduce heat transfer into the building, lower cooling energy costs and reduce membrane stress and accelerated degradation.
