Smith Consulting Architects, a San Diego architectural firm, announced that construction is under way for the 75,000-square-foot expansion of Flower Hill Promenade, located in Del Mar, Calif.
The 14-acre center, originally built in 1977, is one of San Diego's premier shopping and dining destinations, with a collection of 42 specialty shops and restaurants. The $22 million expansion includes a 75,000-square-foot, two-story retail/office building and a 397-car parking structure, along with parking and circulation improvements and new landscaping throughout.
Smith Consulting Architects is acting as production architect on the design-build team of general contractor Lusardi Construction Company of San Marcos, Calif. The Lusardi/Smith Consulting Architects proposal was selected by owner Protea Properties among those of ten competing teams based on schedule and cost projections and their proven retail reputations. Foundation tightens HMC Architects bond with local communities
Founded in 2009 with an initial endowment of $1.9 million, HMC’s nonprofit Designing Futures Foundation (DFF) has donated about $230,000 in its three years of existence, including $105,000 in scholarships to California students. The grants help promising high schoolers with an interest in architecture, design, engineering, education, or healthcare pay for expenses like test preparation services, computers, and college entrance exam fees and tuition. The scholarships can be extended for up to five years of college.
