State Department of Public Works (DPW) Commissioner Raeanne V. Curtis announced recently that the state of Connecticut has finalized the terms of a purchase and sale agreement to acquire real property located at 59 Field Street in the city of Torrington for the planned relocation and expansion of the Litchfield County Courthouse. The purchase and sale agreement will become official upon the review and approval of the Judicial Branch, Office of Policy and Management, State Properties Review Board, and the Office of the Attorney General. The Field Street property, commonly known in the Torrington area as the former site of the Torrington Company, consists of 5.5 acres of land and includes an existing office building of approximately 43,000 square feet. The courthouse project is expected to cost approximately $40 million and will include renovations to the existing office building and construction of a new four-story, 117,000-square-foot court facility. Following the purchase, DPW will begin the design and construction planning process. The actual construction and renovation of the court facilities is expected to take two years.
