FOREST, Va. – May 19, 2009 - For only the 11th time in its 81-year history, the Steel Joist Institute has bestowed its highest service award, the Golden Joist Award. The award was presented to George P. Lamb Jr., longtime legal counsel, at the Institute’s annual spring board meeting on May 5, 2009. Lamb has served the SJI for the last 34 years after taking over for his father, Geo. P. Lamb Sr., who was employed by the Institute in 1956 as its legal counselor. Lamb continues to serve the Institute on a daily basis.
“Peter has been a constant supply of guidance for our member companies and we have grown to rely on his wisdom and counsel for numerous issues that may have arisen through his years of service,” said Robert Hackworth, managing director of SJI.
Lamb received his bachelor’s degree with honors from American University, as well as his law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law. He is licensed to practice in Washington, D.C., and has done trial practice throughout his career. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force for three years and is a former member of the Beaufort County Council. He resides with his wife in Bluffton, S.C., where they have lived for the last 13 years.
Besides setting standards for the steel joist industry, the Steel Joist Institute works closely with major building code bodies throughout the country helping to develop code regulations regarding steel joists and Joist Girders. The Institute also invests thousands of dollars in research related to steel joists and Joist Girders and offers a complete library of publications and other training and research aids.
