The Thornton Tomasetti board of directors and managing principals announce the promotion of Michael J. Squarzini, P.E., LEED AP, to managing principal of the international engineering firm. Mr. Squarzini, who is based in the New York office, has been with Thornton Tomasetti since 1993 and is the firm’s East U.S. region leader. He also oversees the growth of the firm’s São Paulo office.
Mr. Squarzini, a member of Building Design + Construction's "40 Under 40" Class of 2007,  has more than 20 years of experience in the structural analysis, design and review of a variety of building types, including sports facilities, transportation, commercial, education and healthcare facilities.
Mr. Squarzini is presently working on several high-profile new design and renovation projects including the Hudson Yards, 7 Bryant Park and Brookfield Place in New York and the new Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan, all currently under construction.
He is the past president of the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY), and currently serves on the board of the Salvadori Center, an organization that trains teachers to use the built environment to help students understand math and science concepts. Mr. Squarzini is a licensed professional engineer in New York and a LEED Accredited Professional.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Manhattan College and a master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn.

Lance Parker, AIA, has been promoted to principal in the Chicago office of the international engineering firm. He has been with the firm since 2001.
Mr. Parker has diverse and broad experience in commercial architecture and uses his expertise to carry out the firm’s architectural forensic and investigative projects. His work involves building façade evaluations and repair programs, due diligence and condition assessments, failure investigations, renovations, restorations, property loss consulting and litigation support.
Recent projects include a multi-year balcony repair project at The Columbian condominium building, a window replacement project at the landmarked 350 E. Cermak building, and a condition assessment of a tornado-damaged building in Oklahoma.
Mr. Parker is a registered architect in Illinois and a registered energy professional in Chicago. He participates in the city’s chapters of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and Construction Specifications Institute (CSI).
In addition, Aaron Beebe has been promoted to Senior Associate in the San Diego office.
