One Click LCA recently launched a new software tool to help building teams comply with Part 11, Title 24, of the California Code of Regulations—CALGreen.

The regulation is the nation’s first state-mandated green building code to include embodied carbon emission control as a mandatory component, effective from July 1, 2024. This law requires developers to use strategies such as reusing existing structures, cutting embodied carbon, and providing EPDs for materials used.

CALGreen applies to non-residential buildings and schools in California. It mandates a 10% reduction in embodied carbon for buildings larger than specified sizes.

The One Click LCA CALGreen Tool is tailored to assist developers in achieving compliance with CALGreen’s rigorous standards through three primary pathways:

  • Building Reuse: Reuse at least 45% of an existing structure and exterior\
  • Performance: Complete a whole building life cycle assessment demonstrating a 10% reduction in embodied carbon from a baseline model
  • Prescriptive: Document environmental product declarations (EPDs) for specified materials

The tool provides a robust framework for building reuse, performance, and prescriptive compliance, ensuring a comprehensive approach to sustainability, according to a One Click LCA news release.
