The 18,884-sf Collegiate Center addition to Thomas Edison Prepatory High School, Tulsa, Okla., has a floating cantilever study lounge. Two multipurpose rooms double as FEMA-361 safe rooms that can each protect up to 600 persons from winds up to 240 mph. The $4.4 million addition provides 15 distinct spaces. Private-sector construction in major North American cities is slowing, according to the latest RLB Crane Index. The number of tower cranes in use declined 10% since the first quarter of 2023. The index, compiled by consulting firm Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB), found that only two of 14 cities—Boston and Toronto—saw increased crane counts.
