TRACO's Sneh Kumar named to NFRC Board of Directors

August 11, 2010

Cranberry Township, Pa. -- TRACO has announced that Sneh Kumar has been elected to the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) Board of Directors. Kumar is a Mechanical Engineer, currently employed as Research Supervisor at TRACO. He manages research projects that explore new technologies with the aim of integrating them into fenestration products.

Kumar has been active member of NFRC and has chaired various committees and task groups including; optical properties, which govern NFRC 300 series documents; Validation Review task group which reviews physical test requirements; and Component Modeling Approach (CMA) Complex product rating task group which is developing a rating procedure for non-standard commercial fenestration products.

The NFRC CMA certification program has been in development for several years and is significant because it will provide commercial products a certification for whole product energy performance ratings for nonresidential projects. Kumar has been involved in the development of NFRC CMA certification program. He is considered a Subject Matter Expert on CMA and was recently accredited with an NFRC Accredited Calculation Entity (ACE), which generates project label certification for nonresidential projects. He is also a NFRC Certified Simulator and is a LEED Accredited professional.

Prior to joining TRACO, Kumar worked at Architectural Testing Inc. as a Research Engineer, where he contributed towards the design and calibration of a Solar Calorimeter and a hot-box for Tubular Daylight Device. During his graduate education in Mechanical Engineering at University of Massachusetts (UMASS) at Amherst, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable energy (CEERE) lab, focusing on thermal performance research of fenestration systems.
