RIVERSIDE, Calif. (www.extension.ucr.edu) – (April 2, 2009) - Riverside County is set on becoming the crown jewel of sustainability and green construction projects in Inland Southern California. As of March 1, all Riverside County construction projects must meet a newly approved “green building” policy that requires county construction projects to seek Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. UCR Extension’s new class, “Green Construction and Building Methods” is designed to teach planners, developers, builders and contractors about green construction and rating systems, like LEED, which evaluate the sustainability of construction projects. The “Green Construction and Building Methods” class meets from 6 to 9:15 p.m. on Mondays beginning April 13 and ending May 18, 2009. This class also meets online.
Instructors Joseph Blanco, principal for RESCUE Green in Corona, and Jon Robert Dougal, sustainability director for Habitat for Humanity in Riverside, will teach you how to choose building materials important to sustainable design based on the extraction, processing and transportation steps required to acquire them. You will also learn how better decisions selecting these materials lead to improved impacts on the energy and environment.
The class fee is $395.
