DPR Construction of Northern California has started construction on the University of California San Francisco’s new Medical Center at Mission Bay. The first phase of the $1.6 billion, 878,000-sf facility includes a 289-bed hospital for women, children, and cancer patients. Designed to meet LEED Gold, the complex will use recycled materials and energy-efficient lighting and equipment. The center also will use the latest “smart” technology, including wireless systems, to provide patient records via touch screens at each bed. Rosendin Electric, San Jose, Calif., is the project’s electrical contractor, and Anshen and Allen, part of Stantec Architecture, is architect.
