Uneven snow load concern prompts structural study of Minnesota college auditorium roof

The roof of the Memorial Auditorium of Concordia College in Minnesota will undergo a complete structural analysis.

By BD+C Staff | November 6, 2013

The roof of the Memorial Auditorium of Concordia College in Minnesota will undergo a complete structural analysis because it was built to 1946 codes and may not be able to accommodate uneven snow loads. The roof came under scrutiny after basketball players noticed that the ceiling-mounted hoops had dipped below regulation height.

"Snow load calculations now take into consideration unbalanced loads, unequal distribution, the composition and weight of the snow," said Wayne Flack, facilities management director.
