Zaha Hadid Architects, in conjunction with AECOM, has released renderings for a major stadium being designed for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup--an event that will involve up to nine stadiums. The 40,000-seat venue in Al Wakrah, south of Doha, will incorporate passive design features for airflow. Hadid's vision was inspired by the Arab dhow, a traditional local fishing boat.
Plans call for the modular second tier, which will contain a large amount of engineeered timber, to be disassembled after the event and reused in several developing countries for other structures.
