While construction was concluding on the Hotel Sofitel New York in Manhattan last June, it was just beginning on another Manhattan high-rise hotel property. Part of resurgent Times Square, the 45-story, 858-room Westin New York at Times Square is scheduled for completion in fall 2002.
Developed, owned and built by Tishman Realty & Construction Co. Inc. affiliates, the property will be operated by Westin Hotels & Resorts. The hotel tower will be connected to Tishman's existing E Walk entertainment, retail and restaurant complex. The hotel will have its entrances on the newly revitalized West 42nd Street, as well as on 43rd Street.
Miami-based architectural firm Arquitectonica is the designer on the project that John L. Tishman, Tishman Realty chairman, predicts will be "a major visual impact on New York's skyline with its design and dramatic lighting." The hotel is designed as two 45-story prisms, separated by a curved beam of light. Its 532-ft. tower will soar into the Manhattan skyline.
Of the hotel's 858 rooms, more than 200 will have special-service accommodations, including concierge-level and enhanced business-class rooms. In addition, the hotel will offer 34 suites, including two presidential suites; 26,000 square feet of meeting and function space; 24-hour room service; a business center; and a fitness center and spa.
