A new batting range in Brookfield, Conn., combines tradition with modernity, evoking an old-fashioned baseball park with a nontraditional metal building. Using Ceco Building Systems products, Pre-Engineered Building Concepts designed and built the All-Star Batting Range to reflect the look and feel of an old ballpark. The building spans 100 feet in width with a 28-foot-tall eave and 60-foot single-slope expansion. Reminiscent of the original “House that Ruth Built” constructed in 1923, designers constructed a frieze to line the roof while an exterior insulation finish (EIFS) was installed over a 24-gauge steel panel to create a faux-façade of old bricks. Additionally, an indoor batting cage was constructed flush with the floor area—in traditional designs, it is on a raised platform.
