Altoon Partners has announced that Leslie Young, LEED AP, has rejoined the practice as director of strategic development.
Young is returning to the firm, where she worked from 1997 to 2003, after spending the intervening years working with other practices in a number of roles including marketing and project management.
A graduate of the University of Southern California, where she received her Bachelor of Architecture, Young is an active member of the professional community. She is an associate member of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Los Angeles Chapter and the California Council (AIACC), having assumed in leadership roles in both. In addition, she has been a member of the Southern California Development Forum, the Asian American Architects/Engineers (AAa/e), the University of the Southern California Architectural Guild, and the Society of Marketing Professional Services, serving in range of elected and volunteer positions in each of them. Smithsonian building $45 million green lab
Thanks to a $45 million federal appropriation to the Smithsonian Institution, the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Edgewater, Md., has broken ground on what is expected to be one of the most energy-efficient laboratories in the country. The 69,000-sf lab is targeting LEED Gold and is expected to use 37% less energy and emit 37% less carbon dioxide than a similar building.

World’s tallest building now available in smaller size
Emaar Properties teamed up with LEGO to create a miniature version of the Burj Khalifa as part of the LEGO Architecture series. Currently, the LEGO Burj Khalifa is available only in Dubai, but come June 1, 2011, it will be available worldwide.
