Zweig Letter's 2009 Hot Firm List of Fastest-growing Architecture, Engineering, and Environmental Firms

August 11, 2010

WAYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS- Management consulting and research firm ZweigWhite has identified the 200 fastest-growing architecture, engineering, and environmental consulting firms in the U.S. and Canada for its annual ranking, The Zweig Letter Hot Firm List. This annual list features the design and environmental firms that have outperformed the economy and competitors to become industry leaders.

This year's Hot Firm winners will be honored at a special awards reception and banquet at The Zweig Letter Hot Firm Conference, to be held October 28-30, at Green Valley Resort in Las Vegas.

Mark Zweig, founder and director of ZweigWhite, says, "Don't confuse us with imitators! The Zweig Letter Hot Firm list was the first and only list of high growth design and environmental firms and has a 10+ year tradition. Over the years, the "Hot Firm" designation has become synonymous with success in the industry. Firms on The Zweig Letter Hot Firm List are recognized the world over as well-managed companies that outperform their peers because they do a better job for their clients!"

The Zweig Letter 2009 Hot Firm List is based solely on gross revenue for both fiscal year 2005 and fiscal year 2008, as verified by financial statements or income tax returns reviewed by third parties. The list is limited to firms based in the United States and Canada deriving the majority of their revenue from the practice of architecture, engineering, planning, environmental consulting, or allied disciplines. Design/build firms are also eligible. Only firms that were in business as of January 1, 2005, and had 2005 revenue of $1 million or greater, were eligible. Firms were ranked from first to last based on percentage growth and dollar growth. Dollar growth and percentage growth were weighted equally to give both small and large firms an opportunity to make the list. Each firm's two rankings were added together, and the 200 firms with the lowest combined rankings comprise the list.

The top 10 firms on The Zweig Letter 2009 Hot Firm List in alphabetical order are:

Bridging the gap: How early architect involvement can revolutionize a city’s capital improvement plans

Capital Improvement Plans (CIPs) typically span three to five years and outline future city projects and their costs. While they set the stage, the design and construction of these projects often extend beyond the CIP window, leading to a disconnect between the initial budget and evolving project scope. This can result in financial shortfalls, forcing cities to cut back on critical project features.
